Today saw the 2s knocked out of the Hawke Trophy with a comprehensive loss to a team from a higher league in Old Glossop 2s. On a cold and wet day, HLCC were put into bat with opener Nick Finley (24) and Will Bradford (21) bothering the scorers as we found ourselves 83 AO. Old Glossop were not for hanging around, with only some exceptional fielding from Jake Spencer & Rhys Warhurst delaying the inevitable until the winning score was reached for the loss of only 1 wicket. #UTFL

On a cold and wet day, HLCC were put into bat with opener Nick Finley (24) and Will Bradford (21) bothering the scorers as we found ourselves 83 AO. Kudos to Groves young bowlers!! Yesterday’s first XI started with surprise as skipper McCarthy won a toss and bowled. Lane began well and had Grove under pressure at 16-2 before a strong 3rd wicket partnership pushed the score towards triple figures. Skipper Hein eventually departing for 37. Melnyk and Chorlton both took 4 wickets as Lane turned the screw to restrict the visitors to 100ao. In reply skipper McCarthy barbecued himself for 14 as Stewart 46* and Melnyk 39* helped the boys to 20 big ones. A strong twos side made their way up the a6 to face New Mills. On a damp deck the hosts won the toss and opted to field. Skipper Woodcraft 58, Holt 24, Mud 30 and Ryles 32 all chipped in as the Lane posted a competitive 160-4. In reply New Mills timed their chase to perfection needing one to win off the last ball they scampered through to see Lane lose another close affair. Woodcraft takes his men to Old Glossop today in the quarter final of the Hawke trophy - get yourself there to cheer them on. #UTFL
